Guidelines To Consider When Building A Site On The Web

By Jessica Stanley

So you want to set up a website. Well, there are a few basic things you take care of first. For instance:

1) Before you set up your website, it's a good idea to secure a domain name. Making sure you have the ".com" you want is always a good move. There are a number of websites that sell domains; take your pick.

Domain providers like godaddy.com and yahoo.com have very reasonable prices. They also tend to run a lot of specials. Try to buy your domain name when they're running these specials.

2) A website without a host is homeless. No one will be able to see it and it will just sit on your computer looking pretty. Purchasing hosting for your website is the second thing you should do.

There are shared hosting servers and dedicated hosting servers. Begin as a better off sticking to shared hosting; they do not cost as much and are easier to deal with. Dedicated hosting servers are more for businesses and people who expect to have a lot of visitors to their website.

3. If you want your website to look good, you should hire a good designer. You can always delete yourself, but the more complicated the website is, the better it is to hire someone with advanced skills. There are many background elements to running a website, and professionally trained website designers are the best for the job. Plus, people like to look at pretty websites.

You could design a website that looks very good but takes forever to load. Or you could design a website that runs very fast but isn't too pleasing to the eye. Neither one is going to be pleasing to the people who visit your site. And since you want people to come back to your site, you should have a well-designed site all around.

Once you have the basics, you can start worrying about more advanced things. Things such as shopping carts, automated newsletters, e-mail forms, etc. But you should always start out on a good, solid foundation.
