Physical Therapist Jobs Are In High Demand

By Adriana Noton

Physical therapist jobs including PTA jobs offer job security in addition to providing good salaries to those who get satisfaction from helping people overcome their physical limitations. The PTA performs tasks that are similar to those of a licensed therapist. Assistants help patients perform their exercises and give patients therapeutic massages. Both therapists and their assistants must have a service oriented personality because therapists and their assistants are in the business of serving those with physical limitations.

The primary role of the assistant is to observe patient progress and to track patient improvement and record results in patient logs. The assistant will, in some clinics, be responsible for clerical work such as the ordering of supplies. Some clinics have assistants working primarily in administrative capacities and even managing the front office and entire clinic staff. The assistant must be willing to take on any job that the physiotherapist assigns to the assistant.

The assistant must have a servant's attitude because she will be called upon to help out patients when they need help with their exercise routine and to help the physiotherapist who needs help running the clinic. Therapists work with patients for one week, one month, or even one year or longer depending on the needs of a particular patient. An assistant must work under the supervision of a licensed therapist. Assistants usually form bonds with patients because assistants spend a great deal of time with patients and a bond is formed over this time.

The assistant prepares patients for their therapy session and cleans up the exercise area when the session is complete. The assistant works under the supervision of the physiotherapist and reports any comments the patient has about his treatment directly to the physiotherapist. The physiotherapist assistant helps keep the clinic running smoothly by facilitating therapeutic exercise sessions and keeping the front office in order.

Choose the right school for physiotherapist assistant training because the right program will open many doors for employment. In order to practice in most states a person who wants to work as a PTA has to complete an associate's degree that is accredited by the licensing board. The curriculum should include biology, medical science, and general education courses related to anatomy.

Most states require that students complete an associate's degree before taking course work related to physical therapy work. However, some states allow students to start their training in physical therapy without an associate's degree background. Some states require an associate's degree background and course work related to emergency medical techniques such as CPR before a student can sit for the state exam.

Those who are part of the health care industry earn good incomes but most people in the health care field work in health care not for the good pay but because they want to help people. Most people in the health care field report that they are in this career for humanitarian reasons and not economic reasons. The good pay is a residual benefit of the job but the true satisfaction comes from the opportunity to be of service to people in need.

Physical therapist jobs and pta jobs provide job satisfaction, job security, and a good salary. There is a great demand in the health care industry because as the population ages more people are in need of health care services. The physiotherapist relies heavily on his assistant because most therapy clinics have a heavy workload and the assistant helps with patient care, insurance billing, and general office management.
