Weather Guard Your Roofs With Snow Guards

Maintaining the roofs is the only key to add years to its life. To get the best out of your roofs, one should provide them with the best roofing materials. Homeowners should install the materials that increases the durability and strength of the roof to withstand the severe climatic conditions.

Places that are largely covered with the snow and ice all the four seasons, need some special shield that can protect the steel roofs from being deteriorated. Snow guards are designed primarily for this purpose. They are specifically used to prevent the sudden run away of the snow.

Snow guards are also named as snow dogs. Correctly positioned and attached, snow guards hold the snow and ice on the roof until it safely melts. Often without snow dogs in place, cascading snow and ice present a very dangerous situation to persons who might be in the pathway of the sliding matter.

National Roofing Contractors however, suggest that places which primarily experience frequent and ample snowfall should install them. Generally, installing the snow guards allow a large amount of snow to accumulate over a small area. This can further cause the roof leaks and fissures. So, only the areas with heavy snowfall should install them.

Therefore, the first and the foremost step towards installing the snow guards that one should consider is it proper placement. Once the place is decided, you can start with the project by applying the silicon caulk under the snow guard. This acts as a sealant between the guard and the roof.

Properly position and attach the guards over the silicon caulk. Snow guards are typically fastened to the roof near the bottom of a sloped run. Use neoprene washed screws to secure them instead of nails. As you know, the nails get corroded very fast. This causes the snow guard to leave its place.

Setting the snow guards with the adhering material or caulk as in this case require some 24 hours in summers. And, if you are installing them in winters, it takes some two or three weeks. But is usually recommended to install them in hot season of the year.

High durability and less cost are the two major advantageous features of snow guards. Fixing them with few screws provide ease of installation to the homeowners. This is extremely appreciated by the homeowners.
