By Scott Rodgers

If you are planning to change the tiles of your bathroom then it is not a difficult task to do. All it wants is proper use of tools and knowledge of using them. There are countless choices of tile designs and types that you can use to update your bathroom. Two most common choices are glass tiles and ceramic tiles. If you want to install a glass tile then you just need to insure that they are rated for floor use.

Tools used in this process are- cutters, tile nippers, grout, a large sponge, grout spacers, and a notched trowel. However, for sheet tiles grout spacers are not required and they can be easily installed because they have ready to install mosaics.

First thing to be done is to remove old tiles from the floor of your bathroom. Removal of tiles is little complicated and ensure that after removal, you properly clean the surface and make it smooth for installing other layer of tiles. Grease cleaners can also be used for cleaning grease from the surface.

For having the estimate of number of tiles required for the job, you can measure the size of space. While purchasing tiles, always take some extra pieces as tiles with same color is little difficult to be available in future.

Remove all the molding and fixtures like the toilet or sinks from the bathroom. You also need to purchase subfloor, either green board or cement board and screw it to the floor. It should be cleaned and leveled.

You can now start placing the tiles along the longest wall. Mix tile adhesive and work in small areas at a time. After laying a tile, tap firmly with a rubber mallet to set. Use grout spacers between each tile to keep the spaces even and uniform. You can use the tile cutters and nippers to cut tiles and fit them around your cabinets, tubs, and other fixtures.

Now leave the tiles to set properly for 24 hours. After 24 hours, fill the space between tiles by grout using a trowel. Clean off extra grout by a wet sponge and run a damp mop. After this you need to leave your bathroom unused for around a week.

Tiles are now fixed properly and you can set all the fixtures in the bathroom again. Put the extra tiles aside for future use. Your work is over now and you can enjoy new look of your bathroom.
