Internet Marketing Should Be Taught In Schools

By Timothy Mcfarlane Hornrider

Using the Internet to make money is an important skill that all people should acquire. Just like reading and writing and basic math, internet marketing should be taught in schools.

Think back on all the stuff you learned in high school (and earlier) and consider how much of it has held no practical application for you at any point in your life. Now imagine if you had left high school with the ability to earn money, any time, any place in the world.

Kids who learn web marketing skills at a very early age, will many times, be able to provide a decent living for themselves before they even graduate high school. If online promotional methods was part of the curriculum, starting in middle school, or possibly younger, we would have a lot more self sufficient young people contributing to society.

There are some profound implications that come with this. Crime rates would curtail drastically among young people. Many young people turn to crime due to economic pressures. If they could make money online every day, they wouldn't need criminal activity. On the other hand, a lot of crime is born from low self esteem. The ability to earn income would alleviate a lot of that, as well.

Many kids would take some of their online earnings and contribute to their families, especially in cases where their parents may be struggling, due to the economy, and perhaps as a result of being laid off work. In fact, they could teach their parents how to make money online as well.

If the family had a local business, the kids would be able to use their Web skills to help put the business in front of the eyes of local residents who were searching to find something to buy. The Yellow Pages and a number of other sources that used to bring in a lot of business have been utterly replaced by the Internet.

The local companies that have learned to fare well in today's economy are usually the ones who have either figured out how to use the Internet to bring them business, or they hire somebody to do it for them. It is actually not that tough, because local businesses are not competing on a global level.

For example, it would be all but impossible to attain a listing on the first page of search results for the search term; business cards. However, a printing company in Fort Lauderdale will stand a tremendously greater chance to get good search ranking for; business cards Fort Lauderdale.

If teenagers would acquire significant internet marketing skills by the time of high school graduation, they may conceivably even be able to pay their way through college. As it stands today, students borrow the money and can spend decades repaying their loans, with compounded interest.
