Dangers of Slimming Down with Certain Methods

By Martin S. Casey

Are you trying to lose weight? There is a wealth of available information and you need to pick one plan that looks reasonable to you. Sticking to a healthy diet and doing regular exercise can be a slow way to lose weight so people often try risky ways instead. Most commonly, women are resorting to these risky methods as they feel pressured into being thin by society. Our society pressures women into being thin so they often choose these risky weight loss methods. Being at a healthy weight is optimal but, if you decide to use a dangerous weight loss method, you can actually jeopardize your health. Here is some information that will shed light on these risky methods.

Most people choose to starve themselves when they are looking for a quick weight loss fix and then they suffer from low energy levels due to not consuming enough food. You may simply skip breakfast or lunch, or maybe both meals. Even though your body is forcefully telling you that you're hungry and need food, you tell yourself mentally that you're not hungry. However, after a while your body learns to adjust. Since your body believes it is being starved, it slows down the metabolism process in order to save energy, prompting you to burn less fat than you normally would. When you do decide to eat normally again, your metabolism will still be fairly slow, so you will store calories more easily, resulting in you putting on all of that fat quicker. You will lose weight by starving yourself, but not as much as you would with a proper diet and exercise plan. Wouldn't you rather eat, be healthy and lose more weight?

Starving yourself can usually lead to anorexia. What happens is that you acquire a fear of food and turning overweight which results in your eating very little and becoming very thin. Anorexia causes you to get a vulnerable immune system and can eventually lead to death. Adolescents usually experiment with starvation diets but, regrettably, when you become obsessed with starving yourself, you can become anorexic and do permanent harm to your health.

Next up, we have bulimia. People who use this method eat huge amounts of food and then regurgitate so that the calories do not stay in their body. These people aren't scared of food as anorexics are, rather the opposite: they will gorge on great amounts of food and then feel guilty so they sick it back up. You can't tell if somebody has bulimia as their body weight doesnt vacillate too much, whereas with the other diets you can see people losing weight. Puking up the food you've consumed is not good for your body. Your heart and other vital body organs can be badly affected. Stomach ulcers may occur because of the continual throwing up of food. Your esophagus may be destroyed by the stomach acid and your teeth may lose their enamel. The acid can also cause injury to your throat. Your body can be badly injured by throwing up your food on a regular basis.

For best results, eat healthy foods and eat moderately. Try to keep the less healthy food out of your diet as much as possible and eat smaller portion sizes. You can effectively become slimmer without risking your health.
