How To Do Gutter Installation By Yourself

By Ernesto M. Bauers

Gutter installation is necessary in a home because gutters are for the collection of rain water. They are helpful in draining the water away. A gutter may be installed by a professional or you may decide to do it yourself. Here is how. Collect all the materials that you will need for both gutters and downspouts. Mark the highest point of it on the roof and on the low end next to the downspout. If there is any part rotting you may want to repair it first.

Look for rafter tails on the face of the roof. Mark each rafter visibly. Make holes of an eighth of an inch in diameter on each mark. Place lag screws that shall be able to penetrate for two inches to fasten the face bracket.

Cut the gutter to the length intended using a saw. If it will continue after a corner cut according to the angle of that corner. If a distance will need two parts of gutter cut them out and overlap the two on eight inches. Use eight steel screws that are three eighths or you may use pop rivets to join the two.

Affix spherical tops to the sewer end. Use aluminum pop rivets to do this affixing. If it is straight without any corners, affix on either side of the drain. Use a drill to make holes before installing rivets. Seal them using silicone caulk creating a joint which is watertight.

Place the channel upside down with the outlet facing up. Create a mark on the inner part of the outlet which will be for the downspout. On the central part drill a hole through the circular outline. Replace the channel to the position it was in before and create the hole.

Position the drain on the brackets that you had placed on the front part of the roof. Rotate it into a position whereby it shall fit into the hook positioned at the back of the bracket. Bore holes through the holes of the screws which you had made for the brackets. Using screws of stainless steel you should now fasten the drain onto the bracket. You can now paint it using spray paint with a color of your choice.

Use aluminum strips to cover the joints. Fasten the gutter to the downspout. If it does not fit crimp the downspout to achieve this. Screw the elbow and the protruding outlet together. For two storied houses with two use three brackets. For a one storied one use two brackets.
