Comparing Printers For Home Or Office Use

By David Rolph

The quality of printers has greatly improved over the years, starting from the early printing presses and moving on to laser and inkjet types of machines. Black-and-white only devices gave way to color printers, each of which are now quite useful. Technology continues to improve features and functionality of these copiers.

Laser printing was the best thing to come along for many years. Then, appearing on the scene was the inkjet variety. Streams of ink were precisely deposited on the paper, which made very clear and sharp-edged images. Images could be printed that were of excellent quality, which was just what folks wanted. Because there are so many makers, it would be a good idea to see a printout of what your specific machine will do.

Speediness is the purview of the laser printer, so if that feature is important, a laser device is a good choice. For most users in homes and small businesses, the inkjet will manage very well. It is a bit slower than the laser, but creates very clear and bright results.

There is a dedicated printer that does nothing but produce digital pictures. It uses a special process that provides exceptional results. This would not usually be the printer of choice for the home environment. Most home users print only occasional photos or images, often from a computer monitor display.

When small business start-ups shop for their choice of machines, they often opt for a multi-functional printer. It has features such as faxing, scanning, and regular printing, as well as the capability to produce excellent photos. The entrepreneur conducting business from a home office may choose this all-in-one machine, too.

Because of the variety of printers, it is extremely important to spend time determining what you actually need a printer to do before making the purchase. Many manufacturers will be vying for your business and they will have similar features. Knowing beforehand what applications you will require is a wise move.
