The Significance Of Gift-Giving

By Adam Winston

During the summer and the winter are very important times for the Japanese people, this is the time they are able to give out gifts to their loved ones as a form of expression of their love to their loved ones. They mostly refer to it as O-seibo and O-chugen, these are the gifts that they offer to their friends.

O-chugen gets its origin from China where it was normal for them to ensure that they offer gifts to some of their gods. On the second day is the day in which the ancestors were also remembered and they are to be offered gifts.

This process is the one that led to o-chugen, where gifts are normally given during that time when it is summer which is mainly at the beginning of the year probably at January.

The next festival, o-seibo, was when offerings were offered to the spirits to assure them to the new year, this offerings were mainly brought by the married daughters whom had already moved away from their previous homes.

This later transformed where most people decided that this is the best time to be offering gifts to those people who have been offering assistance to them.

Foodstuffs are the best gifts that you can offer the loved one at this time of the year, since they symbolize property but offering shoes of whatever design is not good since it means you are stepping on them.

For someone to be more grateful during this time, ensure that you give them whatever they desire to have so that they can be able to enjoy to the fullest.

As it is always routine make sure that at the beginning and the end of the year you are bale to offer gifts to the loved ones for you to enjoy the whole year long.
