Philippine Maid-How the Philippine Maid in Abroad Can Uplift the Country While Serving Other Nations

By Alice Sy

The Philippine maid no doubt comprises a large percentage in the Filipino community anywhere in the world. That's because they are wanted for the job, if not the best, then among the most in demand. As much as they are being marketed worldwide as a big source of convenience, they still manage to help their own country without their personal presence. It's time to give these workers their moment to shine because that's what they are to the Philippines: a shining treasure.

Every year, the Philippines dispatched thousands of workers abroad because of the money they reap in return. Maids comprise a large portion of those workers. There is no future for the maid in the Philippines. It is hard to leave the country and a loving family but it may be all worth it for the sake of a brighter future.

It is through the Philippine maid and her family that the Philippine economy enjoys financial benefits. When a Filipino worker sends money thru bank, a percentage goes to the Philippine investment. The added remittances are overwhelming that the government declares the Filipino overseas workers also as investors.

Aside from sending money via bank transfers, they can also contribute to the economy by buying properties or engaging in businesses. Their remittances last year surpassed a billion, which makes the Philippines among the top 5 countries with the largest recipient of remittances abroad, but in terms of remittance from workers, the Philippines tops the list.

The Philippine maid can indeed be a servant to employers, their own family and own country as well just by working hard. It does not matter if they leave their own country for the sake of a higher salary. The negative images are overpowered by the great benefits they bring to their family, the entire world and even the Philippine economy. They are not helpers, they are life changing uplifters.
