Proven Principles for Writing Your Business Press Releases

By Tom Castaneda

The press release is perhaps one of the great under-utilized marketing tools out there, but generally speaking many people pass them up even though releases are terrific for targeted traffic generation. There's a lot that you can achieve from a successful press release, right from effective branding to a higher market reach. Here are a few easy to apply tips that you should remember at all times when doing a press release to increase your chances of success.

Do not forget about the power of one well-placed image in your press release. The clich that a picture is worth a thousand words is true, and so think about your product along this line. Images tend to evoke immediate feelings and thoughts when people see them. You have to follow accepted format for a release, and so that precludes the use of graphics in the body. It's better that you include a line under the headline, before the body text starts where it's clearly mentioned that high resolution images are available through email or a download link.

You really do have to be careful when it comes to being fictional with your story just in case it attracts a lot of attention. No matter what, though, just do not worry if there is no powerful story to offer - just follow the proper format for a good press release. Now, in order to set the stage right and create a good story, you first need to choose the right set of audience so that everything goes as per plan. There is a little bit of knowledge required for properly optimizing a release for the search engines. There is no need to talk about specific benefits because this is not sales or marketing copy in the usual sense.

The use of additional types of coding in a press release is not advised only because it may not look proper in some browsers. So the thing to do is just use text, and ideally copy and paste if from something like Notepad. Sticking to just the facts is what you must always do, and attempting to pretty it up will usually not be taken in a positive light. As long as you're giving enough preference to the content of your release and make it stand out from the rest, then that is good enough.
