Should You Employ SEO?

By Catherine Kern

Search engine optimization, also referred to as SEO, is the process of optimizing your online site for search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to bring people to your site. This is by far one of the most effective marketing campaigns any business can engage in to bring in more business. Those who have done SEO for their business have seen great increases in sales.

So that you have an idea of just how powerful this can be, a study done by Enquisite found that organic listings typically got 3 times more clicks than pay per click ads. They also found that generally organic traffic converted 25% more than paid traffic. Why you might ask?

Because people know paid ads are paid. If the search engine ranks you high for a particular term, many assume you must be the best or most relevant for that. So with your high search engine rankings also comes a higher reputation.

For lesser known brands, this can be an incredibly powerful way to leverage themselves. SEO is very attractive to many businesses because of the low cost compared to other marketing methods. Another great thing about it is how you can track and measure progress.

If you are currently not employing SEO in your marketing strategy, you really need to rethink your marketing and include it somehow. Find a reputable SEO firm that can help you with your campaign. You could also do it yourself if you have a lot of time. SEO is not particularly difficult, it is just very time consuming.

Personally, unless you are in the business of SEO, hiring someone is much better because at the end of the day, you want to focus on what you do, not on building or optimization your site. That's what other people are for.
