Security is an issue that businesses should examine with caution. While the need for security is essential, it has become even more important as the risk to security continues to increase. There are different security systems that you can consider to guard against these threats. For example, if we are talking about securing a building, security turnstiles should be one of the first things you will consider. These refer to the physical barriers that are fixed at the entrance to provide access control.

It serves as the first line of defense against potential threats that can harm the occupants and assets of a building. But apart from restricting access, turnstiles are also used to count people who enter or leave an area, monitor checkpoints and prevent tailgating. A vital feature of the technology applied in turnstiles is the use of credentials before entry is allowed. It can be in the form of a coin, payment or electronic card, to name a few.

There are different types of turnstiles: waist-high, full-height and optical. The waist-high turnstiles are the most widely used. They allow entry only after a ticket or coin has been inserted. However as the name implies, it is only as high as the waist, thereby the potential of a person jumping over it is high. The second type, the full-height is at least 7 feet high and resembles the technology of a revolving door. This makes it impossible for anyone to jump over it, providing better security. It comes as either High Entrance/Exit Turnstile or as Exit Only. Another type is the optical turnstile. It employs infrared beams to detect passage, especially the entry of anyone who doesn't have a valid pass. This is recommended for buildings where the inclusion of physical barriers isn't aesthetically appealing.

Given the design, technology and uses of turnstiles, they can be installed in various settings. Among these are stadiums, recreational parks, museums, subways and other mass transit stations, company lobbies, retail stores casinos, cafeterias, exhibit halls and similar establishments. Establishing entry security is is vital to securing a whole building.

If there is effective access control at the entrance, safeguarding occupants and their assets becomes easier. When exploring the market of security equipment, you will be amazed at the number of innovations available these days. This leaves you with no excuse as to why you can't secure your assets. There is a wide range of options to consider and you have to acquaint yourself with each one if want the best for the money. As always, sufficient information is your best weapon.
