Bed Bugs - Where They Come From and How to Eliminate Them

By William Cook

Bed bugs in homes are a large problem for the occupants. These irritating bugs survive on warm blood, and if human victims are not available then they target household pets like dogs. To confront this issue, one must go for professional pest control procedures.

Travellers are usually responsible for transmission of bed bugs, and once these bugs adapt to new surroundings, they reproduce very fast. They infest beds, furniture, carpets and all such objects where they can find holes and crevices.

A common myth about bed bugs is that they multiply because of lack of cleanliness, but nothing can be farther from the truth. It must be remembered that blood and not trash is what invites these bugs and therefore a clean house is not enough to get rid of them. However, if the surroundings are kept sanitized, then the pests can be easily spotted.

That bed bugs are too small to be seen without any magnifying device is another misconception. The truth is that these creatures can be seen without any aid but it is difficult to locate them because their flat bodies allow them to slide into tiny cracks and layers of cloth without any difficulty.

Bed bugs bite. They can live long without eating - up to 6 months or a year.

Bed bugs in a house are best taken care of by knowledgeable pest controllers, so it is prudent to hire the services of such professionals. However, if you don't want to spend on a professional, the next best thing to do is to properly wash bed sheets, carpets etc. in hot water and then let them to dry in the sun. It is essential to plug all gaps in the walls and do away with furniture that has holes in it, so that these pests don't get any place to grow.
